Norton County Commission minutes

 

THE HIRING OF A DISPATCHER AND THE FEMA PROJECTS WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AT THEIR MEETING MONDAY.  SHERIFF TROY THOMSON UPDATED THE COMMISSION ON THE INTERVIEWS FOR THE DISPATCHER POSITION.  THOMSON SELECTED ONE OF THE APPLICANTS AND WOULD LIKE TO OFFER THE JOB.  THE POSITION WILL BE THE MIDNIGHT TO EIGHT SHIFT AND WILL BE FULL TIME.  THOMSON ALSO RECEIVED A NEW CONTRACT FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF 911 EQUIPMENT RECENTLY INSTALLED WITH THE 911 UPGRADES.  THE QUOTED FIGURE WAS 2,084 DOLLARS TO COVER THE NEW EQUIPMENT.  THE COMMISSION APPROVED THE CONTRACT QUOTE.  A MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT FOR ALL THE EQUIPMENT WILL BE RECEIVED IN AUGUST.  ALSO MONDAY, FLOYD RICHARD FROM THE ROAD AND BRIDGE REPORTED THE COUNTY IS WAITING FOR BLADES FOR THE ROAD GROOM.  THE COUNTY HAS BEEN USING THE GROOM TO DRESS ROADS.  HE ALSO ASKED FOR AND RECEIVED APPROVAL TO SELL THE 1983 TRUCK AT THE CONSIGNMENT AUCTION.  THE TRUCK IS NO LONGER BEING USED.  RICHARD REPORTED THAT ALL THE FEMA PROJECTS IN DISTRICT ONE HAVE BEEN COMPLETED.  THE COUNTY WILL CONTINUE TO WORK ON DISTRICT TWO PROJECTS.  THE COMMISSION REVIEWED A LETTER FROM THE CITY OF LENORA, ASKING THAT THE LENORA PRAIRIE GEM CEMETERY TAX BE RE-INSTATED.  THE TAX WAS REMOVED SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND SINCE THAT TIME MANY PROJECTS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AND THE FUNDS ARE BEING DEPLETED.  THE CEMETERY BOARD WILL BE NOTIFIED BY THE COUNTY CLERK THAT THE TAX LEVY IS REQUESTED FROM THE CEMETERY BOARD AND WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE DURING THE 2011 BUDGET PERIOD.  SOLID WASTE SUPERVISOR CURT ARCHIBALD GAVE A BRIEF COST RUN FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION WASTE AND THE MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE.  THE CURRENT COST HE FIGURED IS 39 DOLLARS PER TON.  THE COMMISSION ASKED IF THIS WAS A COMPLETED FIGURE, WHICH INCLUDED THE CONSTRUCTION PHASE OF THE CD PIT, THE LABOR AND BENEFIT COST AND THE ENGINEERING FEES.  THOSE COSTS WERE NOT INCLUDED AND THE COMMISSION ASKED FOR A NEW COST FIGURE COMPLETE WITH THE OTHER EXPENSES.  THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS, THE COMMISSIONERS ADJOURNED MONDAY.  THESE MINUTES ARE NOT OFFICIAL UNTIL SIGNED AND APPROVED BY THE NORTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AT THEIR MONTH END MEETING TODAY.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
