Norton County Commission minutes

THE CANVASSING OF THE BALLOTS AND THE ESTIMATES FOR RENOVATIONS WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AT THEIR MEETING MONDAY.  THE COMMISSION CANVASSED THE BALLOTS FOR THE CITY OF NORTON MAYOR’S PRIMARY ELECTION AND SIGNED THE BOOK WITH THE OFFICIAL RESULTS.  ALSO, THEY MET WITH STEVE NELSON FROM NELSON BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION.  HE PRESENTED A BID ON THE COURTHOUSE ADA RENOVATION.  THE QUOTE WAS FOR 54,720 DOLLARS.  THE BID INCLUDES THE PARING LOT UPGRADES, CONCRETE RAMPS FOR THE WEST SIDE AND THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE, GRAB BARS FOR THE MAIN LEVEL RESTROOMS, DOORS ON THE MAIN LEVEL RESTROOMS, JAIL CELL REMODEL TO INCLUDE SHOWER AND RESTROOM AND THE VISITATION ROOM AS WELL AS THE APPRAISER’S DOOR ENTRANCE.  THE COMMISSION THEN ACCEPTED THE BID.  SHERIFF TROY THOMSON STATED THAT DURING THIS PROJECT, IT IS VERY LIKELY THE INMATES WILL NEED TO BE MOVED TO ANOTHER FACILITY.  THERE WAS QUESTIONS CONCERNING VISITATION DURING THAT TIME.  THE TRAINING THAT WAS UNDERTAKEN BY THE SHERIFF’S OFFICERS WENT WELL AND IS NOW COMPLETE.  THEY ALSO ADDRESSED SPACE ISSUES.  NELSON ALSO DISCUSSED THE EMS ELEVATOR COMPLETION WITH IS NEARLY DONE.  THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION WAS BEING COMPLETED AS OF MONDAY.  THE GENERAL CONSTRUCTION WAS COMPLETE.  ALSO MONDAY, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR SCOTT SPROUL PRESENTED HIS WEEKLY REPORT.  NATALIE LINNER TURNED IN HER TWO-WEEK NOTICE AS SHE WILL BE LEAVING THE APPRAISER’S OFFICE.  SOLID WASTE SUPERVISOR CURT ARCHIBALD PROVIDED FIGURES FOR THE CD AND MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE TRASH COLLECTIONS.  THERE IS STILL SOME QUESTIONS THAT WILL BE ADDRESSED AT A LATER MEETING.  HE ALSO DISCUSSED A BILL IN THE SENATE DEALING WITH THE DISPOSAL OF WASTE MATERIAL IN CERTAIN EMERGENCIES.  ALSO MONDAY, FLOYD RICHARD AND BILL NELSON DISCUSSED SOME CONCERNS WITH THE ROAD DEPARTMENT.  THE COMMISSION PROVIDED THEIR INTENT OF THE MANAGEMENT POSITIONS IN PLACE AND HOPED THIS WILL HELP IN THE FUTURE.  EMS DIRECTOR JANE WYATT REPORTED THE SERVICE CONTINUES TO BE BUSY.  THEY ALSO ADDRESSED LEGISLATION THAT WOULD HAVE A DETRIMENTAL AFFECT ON EMS STATEWIDE.  THE 2011 RACE SCHEDULE WAS PRESENTED.  WYATT RECEIVED THE SCHEDULE LAST WEEK AND SHE HAS SENT NOTICES TO HER STAFF FOR VOLUNTEERS.  THE COMMISSION STATED THE SERVICE WILL NEED TO BE PAID FOR SERVICE TO COVER THE EXPENSE.  THE FLOOR AND AIR VENTS AT THE EMS FACILITY WERE ADDRESSED.  WITH THE CONSTRUCTION THE VENTS HAVE DUST IN THEM.  IT WAS SUGGESTED TO HAVE A FIRM LOOK INTO CLEANING THE VENTILATION AND DUCT WORK.  THE FLOORING IN THE KITCHEN AND CLASSROOM HAS HAD A LOT OF CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT ON IT CAUSING SCRATCHES.  A PROFESSIONAL FLOOR CLEANER WILL BE CONTACTED TO SEE IF HE CAN PULL SOME OF THEM OUT.  THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS, THE COMMISSIONERS ADJOURNED ON MONDAY.  THESE MINUTES ARE NOT OFFICIAL UNTIL SIGNED AND APPROVED BY THE NORTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AT THEIR NEXT REGULAR MEETING MONDAY.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
