Airport Board Report

GRANT MONEY FOR IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE AIRPORT AND A REQUEST WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON CITY COUNTY AIRPORT BOARD LAST NIGHT.  THE BOARD WELCOMED JERRY JONES AS THE APPOINTEE FROM THE CITY ON THE BOARD TO REPLACE KIM SNYDER.  TOM BENNETT FROM BG CONSULTANTS WAS AT THE MEETING TO DISCUSS THE FEDERAL GRANT MONEY THE AIRPORT WILL BE RECEIVING.  THEY WILL BE GETTING 202 THOUSAND DOLLARS TO WORK ON THE SOME OF THE EQUIPMENT IMPROVEMENTS AT THE AIRPORT.  THE MONEY WILL BE USED FOR THE INSTALLATION OF EQUIPMENT TO ALLOW FOR PILOTS TO USE THEIR GPS ON THEIR PLANES TO LAND AT THE AIRPORT.  IT WILL ALSO INCLUDE NEW RUNWAY LIGHTS AND A WIND SOCK FOR THE NORTH END OF THE RUNWAY.  5 PER CENT OF THE TOTAL COST OF THE PROJECT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE AIRPORT BOARD.  THIS IS ONE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED IN THE AIRPORT LAYOUT PLAN.  THE UPGRADES THAT ARE NEEDED HAVE TO BE IN THE PLAN TO QUALIFY FOR FEDERAL MATCH MONEY.  THERE WILL BE OTHER PROJECTS COMING, INCLUDING THE UPGRADES TO THE TRANSFORMERS AT THE AIRPORT.  THE BOARD ACCEPTED THE BID FROM BG CONSULTANTS FOR THIS PROJECT FROM DESIGN TO FINAL INSPECTION FOR 73,038.  THE COST FOR THE AIRPORT BOARD WILL BE ABOUT 35 HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR BG CONSULTANTS.  THE BOARD APPROVED ALL THE CERTIFICATIONS TO BE SIGNED BY CITY ADMINISTRATOR ROB LAWSON TO QUALIFY FOR THE FEDERAL MONEY INCLUDING A DRUG FREE WORKSHOP, BG CONSULTANTS AS THE CONSULTANT AND THE CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT.  BG WAS THE ONLY FIRM INTERESTED IN THE PROJECT.  MARK GRIFFIN FROM THE NORTON CLASSIC CRUISERS WAS AT THE MEETING TO REQUEST USE OF THE AIRPORT RUNWAY DURING THE CAR SHOW ON JULY 9TH.  IT WAS APPROVED WITH LAWSON ABSTAINING FROM VOTING.  THE BOARD APPROVED PAYING THE BILLS FROM JANUARY, FEBRUARY AND MARCH.  LAWSON WAS APPOINTED AS THE BOARD TREASURER.  THE NEXT MEETING OF THE NORTON CITY COUNTY AIRPORT BOARD WILL BE MONDAY APRIL 11TH AT 5:30 IN THE BASEMENT OF THE CITY OFFICE.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
