THE UPDATE ON THE ROAD DEPARTMENT AND A GRANT FOR THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AT THEIR MEETING MONDAY.  SANDY SMITH AND TOPPER COOK FROM THE ROAD DEPARTMENT REPORTED THAT SEVERAL MAINTENANCE PROJECTS ARE COMPLETE AND OTHERS ARE BEING SCHEDULED.  THE NEXT PROJECT IS THE MOWERS AND MOWER TRACTORS.  A DISCUSSION WAS HELD ON THE REAR WINDOWS AND THE REPLACEMENT OF THEM FOR SAFETY REASONS.  SMITH WILL CHECK WITH VENDORS.  SHE AND HERMAN PFANNENSTIEL ATTENDED THE UNDERGROUND STORAGE CERTIFICATION SCHOOL AND ARE BOTH CERTIFIED.  A COUPLE OF RADIATORS HAVE BEEN PURCHASED FOR THE MOTOR GRADERS.  A CULVERT CONCERN ON ROAD G BETWEEN E 1 AND E2 WAS DISCUSSED.  WHEN THE COUNTY INSTALLED A CULVERT A WHILE BACK, IT WAS NOT LARGE ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE WATER FLOW.  BG CONSULTANTS DETERMINED THAT A SMALL BRIDGE NEEDS TO BE INSTALLED.  THE COUNTY SHOULD HAVE THE MATERIALS ON HAND.  JOB APPLICATIONS WERE PRESENTED FOR DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS.  INTERVIEWS WERE HELD THE PREVIOUS WEEK AND THEY ASKED ABOUT HIRING TWO INDIVIDUALS INSTEAD OF ONE THAT IS OPEN.  THE COMMISSION STATED THE BEFORE THE SECOND POSITION IS APPROVED, BUDGET FIGURES NEED TO BE CONFIRMED AND SUPPORTED WITH FUNDING.  IN OTHER BUSINESS, GINA FROCK FROM THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT PRESENTED A GRANT APPLICATION FOR CHRONIC DISEASE RISK REDUCTION, FAMILY PLANNING AND THE IMMUNIZATION ACTION PROGRAMS THROUGH THE KHZ.  THE APPLICATION WAS SIGNED.  NOXIOUS WEED SUPERVISOR REGGIE BECKMAN PRESENTED THE COUNTY MAP OUTLINING ROADS SCHEDULED FOR 2011 SPRAYING.  A TOTAL OF 320 PLUS MILES ARE SCHEDULE FOR SPRING SPRAYING OF WEEDS WHICH WILL ASSIST THE COUNTY WITH MOWING.  THE QUOTE FOR ROAD SPRAYING CHEMICALS HAD NOT ARRIVED AS OF LAST MONDAY.  SOLID WASTE SUPERVISOR CURT ARCHIBALD PRESENTED FIGURES ON THE COLLECTION AND THE EXPENSE ASSOCIATED WITH THE COLLECTIONS OF THE CONSTRUCTION DEMOLITION AND THE MUNICIPAL SOLD WASTE.  THE TRAINING TO ALLOW FOR DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS INMATES AT THE LANDFILL WAS COMPLETE.  EMS DIRECTOR JANE WYATT ADDRESSED THE FRAMING OF THE RESTROOM IN THE BASEMENT OF THE EMS FACILITY.  NELSON BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION WILL BE DOING THE PROJECT.  WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF MOVING A BACK UP DISPATCH CENTER TO THE BASEMENT OF THE EMS FACILITY, THE RESTROOM IS NEEDED.  THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS, THE COMMISSIONERS ADJOURNED MONDAY. THESE MINUTES ARE NOT OFFICIAL UNTIL SIGNED AND APPROVED BY THE NORTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AT THEIR NEXT REGULAR MEETING TODAY.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
