Father’s Day Fatality

A HAYS MAN LOST HIS LIFE IN A ONE-VEHICLE ACCIDENT YESTERDAY IN TREGO COUNTY.  A 2000 FORD RANGER PICK-UP, DRIVEN BY STEVEN SCHMEIDLER OF HAYS WAS EASTBOUND ON A TREGO COUNTY ROAD FIVE AND A HALF MILES SOUTH OF THE I-70 EXIT AT ELLIS AND THEN 2.3 MILES WEST ON AN ELLIS COUNTY ROAD INTO TREGO COUNTY.  THE PICK-UP ENTERED THE NORTH DITCH, STRIKING A DELINEATOR POST.  IT THEN RE-ENTERED THE ROADWAY AND ROLLED SEVERAL TIMES, BEFORE COMING TO REST ON ITS TOP IN THE SOUTH DITCH.  THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED AT EIGHT LAST NIGHT, ACCORDING TO THE KANSAS HIGHWAY PATROL REPORT.  SCHMEIDLER WAS WEARING HIS SEAT BELT, ACCORDING TO THE REPORT.
