The approval of funding for improvements for the airport was discussed during the meeting of the Norton City County Airport Board Monday night. Tom Bennett from B.G. Consultants presented a letter from the Kansas Department of Transportation awarding the airport 99 thousand dollars to repair the North end of the runway and remark that area. The job will be done in the SUMMER or fall. They will replace about 10 cement pads and replace with new. Bennett stated they will need a good sub base for the project. They will also be retarring all the joints on the runway. The Airport Board will have to match 10 per cent of the cost. Bennett also addressed the lighting project. the F.A.A. has approved the project but asked that bids not be awarded before March 15th. The board set a March 13th date to open bids for the project. The Airport Board will be responsible for 5 per cent of the costs for the LIGHTING, new beacon and wind cone. The F.A.A. has reviewed the plans and the changes they requested have been made. The board approved a 3 per cent increase for the salaries of Fixed Base Operator Delvis Miller and Secretary Sandy Smith. The board asked for updated bids for the fueling station. Board Treasurer Rob Lawson was asked to get some quotes from the local banks for the financing of the project. The bills and minutes were approved. The next meeting of the Norton City County Airport Board will be Monday February 13th at 5:30 in the Airport Office. All meetings are open to the public.
