Economic Development Board Notes

THE UPDATE ON THE E-COMMUNITY AND THE AG VALLEY PROGRESS WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON CITY COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD LAST NIGHT.  THE NORTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SIGNED THE AGREEMENT FOR THE E-COMMUNITY.  THE 125 THOUSAND DOLLARS IN TAX CREDITS HAVE BEEN SOLD, AND AMOUNTED TO AROUND 150 THOUSAND.  THE ADMINISTRATIVE FEE HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR PAPERWORK, EVENTS AND TO ADVERTISE FOR THE LOANS.  THERE HAVE BEEN SOME CHANGES.  THE GROUP CAN LOAN UP TO 60 PER CENT OF THE LOAN WITH A MINIMUM OF 5 THOUSAND AND A MAX OF 45 THOUSAND.  THE INTEREST RATE WILL BE SET BY THE LEADERSHIP TEAM AND THE FINANCIAL REVIEW BOARD.  DIRECTOR SCOTT SPROUL WILL BE HAVING FACE-TO-FACE MEETINGS WITH THE FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS AND THE TAX PREPARERS ABOUT THE E-COMMUNITY.  ANOTHER CHANGE IS THAT THE 40 PER CENT MATCH CAN BE A BANK LOAN.  ALSO LAST NIGHT, THE BOARD LEARNED THAT THE COMMISSIONERS HAVE SIGNED THE RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING UP TO 3 MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE ROAD TO THE AG VALLEY PROPERTY.  IT WILL ALSO BENEFIT THOSE BUSINESSES AND RESIDENTS USING THAT ROAD.  THE TOPICAL SURVEY MAY TAKE SOME TIME.  THEY HOPE THE PROJECT COMES IN UNDER THE THREE MILLION.  THIS WILL ALSO HELP WITH DRAINAGE.  SPROUL HAS DIRECTED SOME QUESTIONS FROM THE COMMISSION TO THE ARCHITECT SCHWAB EATON.  THE NEW CONSTRUCTION IS GOING ON AT THE DOCTORS CLINIC TO MAKE IT INTO THE COLBY COMMUNITY COLLEGE NURSING CLASSES.  THREE FOURTHS OF THE BUILDING IS READY FOR SHEETROCK.  THE DEMOLITION HAS BEEN DONE.  THEY ARE WORKING ON CHANGES IN THE DUCT WORK.  THEY DO NOT HAVE A TIME LINE FOR COMPLETION.  THE BUSINESS INCUBATOR SPACE HAS OPENED BY ELEMENTS OF MASSAGE.  THEIR OPEN HOUSE WAS LAST WEEK.  THE 2012 BUSINESS DIRECTORIES HAVE BEEN DONE.  THEY HAVE STARTED DISTRIBUTION.  BRAD HOPKINS WILL DELIVER THE ALMENA ONES, GAYLE JAMES THE LENORA ONES, ROBERTA RYAN AND GREG MANN THOSE ON HIGHWAY 36.  THE BOARD REVIEWED A LEASE WITH ANN DAVIS TO LEASE THE SIGN ON THE EAST EDGE OF NORTON.  THERE WILL BE FOUR KANSAS SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER CLASSES COMING UP IN MARCH FOR FREE.  INFORMATION WILL BE ON THE DISCOVERNORTON.COM WEBSITE.  THE NEXT MEETING OF THE NORTON CITY COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD WILL BE TUESDAY MARCH 13TH AT 5:30 IN THE OFFICE AT 205 SOUTH STATE.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
