School Board Special Meeting Notes

THE USD 211 NORTON BOARD OF EDUCATION HELD A SPECIAL MEETING WEDNESDAY NIGHT TO DISCUSS THE ISSUES THAT WILL BE ADDRESSED WHEN THE DOCKING INSTITUTE WILL BE SURVEYING PATRONS IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.  THIS IS ONE OF THE BOARD’S GOALS FOR THE YEAR.  THEY WILL BE CONDUCTING A PHONE AND E-MAIL SURVEY.  THE QUESTIONS WILL BE THE SAME FOR BOTH SURVEYS.  IF PATRONS ONLY HAVE A CELL PHONE, THEY WILL NOT BE CALLED.  IF THE DISTRICT HAS THE PATRON’S E-MAIL ADDRESS, THEY WILL RECEIVE A SURVEY.  SOME OF THE QUESTIONS WILL DEAL WITH THE FACILITIES AND THE AGE OF THEM.  THEY WILL BE ASKED IF THEY ARE IN FAVOR OF RENOVATING THE CURRENT BUILDINGS OR BUILDING NEW.  THEY WILL BE ASKED IF THEY WOULD BE IN FAVOR OF PAYING MORE PROPERTY TAXES TO PAY FOR THE UPGRADES.  THE SURVEY WILL ASK THOSE TAKING IT IF THEY ARE IN FAVOR OF A STORM SHELTER AT THE SCHOOLS, THE STUDENT-TEACHER RATIO, HOW IMPORTANT THE EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS ARE, ALLOWING FOR THE USE OF THE BUILDINGS BY THE COMMUNITY, THE SAFETY OF THE BUILDINGS AND OTHERS.  THE BOARD WILL THEN BE MEETING WITH THE DOCKING INSTITUTE AFTER ALL THE SURVEYS ARE DONE TO HAVE THEM PRESENT THE RESULTS.  THE BOARD IS LOOKING AT HAVING THE SESSION FOR THE RESULTS OVER A FRIDAY NIGHT/SATURDAY MORNING. THE BOARD OF EDUCATION WILL BE INCLUDED IN THIS PLANNING SESSION, AS WELL AS OTHERS, BUT THOSE ATTENDING WILL BE DECIDED AT THE MARCH MEETING.  THEY TENTATIVELY SET THE MEETING FOR APRIL 21ST AND 22ND.  THE BOARD ALSO ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATION OF PAM BIGGE AS THE DISTRICT WIDE LIBRARY AIDE EFFECTIVE MARCH 6TH.  THE NEXT MEETING OF THE USD 211 NORTON BOARD OF EDUCATION WILL BE MONDAY MARCH 12TH AT 7:30 IN THE BOARD ROOM OF THE UNIFIED OFFICE.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
