Severe Weather Awareness Week

THE  ANNUAL KANSAS SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK IS COMING UP NEXT WEEK.  NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICES SERVING THE STATE OF KANSAS, IN COOPERATION WITH EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS, HAVE DESIGNATED THE WEEK OF MARCH 12-16 AS KANSAS SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK.  DURING THAT WEEK, SEVERE STORM AND SAFETY INFORMATION WILL BE POSTED ON BOTH OUR WEB AND FACEBOOK PAGES.  THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK IS THE TORNADO DRILL, WHEN WEATHER SERVICE OFFICES SERVING THE STATE ISSUE A TEST TORNADO WARNING THROUGH NORMAL COMMUNICATION CHANNELS.  THE TEST WARNING THIS YEAR WILL TAKE PLACE TUESDAY, MARCH 13 AT 1:30 PM CDT AND WILL AIR ON ALL RADIO AND TELEVISION BROADCAST STATIONS AS WELL AS NOAA WEATHER RADIO ALL-HAZARDS.  IF THE WEATHER DOES NOT COOPERATE, THE DRILL WILL BE ON THURSDAY OF NEXT WEEK.  EVERYONE IS ENCOURAGED TO TREAT THE TEST WARNING AS IF IT WERE AN ACTUAL EMERGENCY AND REVIEW PREPAREDNESS PROCEDURES.  MUNICIPALITIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE ARE ENCOURAGED TO SOUND THEIR TORNADO SIRENS AT THAT TIME. SCHOOL OFFICIALS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SEND STUDENTS TO THEIR DESIGNATED TORNADO SHELTER AND PROVIDE A REVIEW OF SAFETY INFORMATION.  AND STORM SPOTTER TRAINING IS TONIGHT AT 6:30 AT PRAIRIE LAND ELECTRIC.
