Airport Board Notes

THE SELF SERVICE FUELING STATION AND THE RUNWAY PROJECT WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON CITY COUNTY AIRPORT BOARD MONDAY NIGHT.  A REPRESENTATIVE OF U-FUEL FROM NORTH CAROLINA WAS AT THE MEETING TO TALK ABOUT THE STATION THAT THE BOARD WAS LOOKING AT.  THEY WILL NEED TO COMPLY WITH STATE AND FEDERAL REGULATIONS FOR THE STATION.  IT IS NOT A PUBLIC FUELING STATION.  U-FUEL WILL BE WORKING WITH B.G. CONSULTANTS AND TOM BENNETT ON HE SITE PLAN,  AND THE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS.  THEY WILL NEED ELECTRICITY AND PHONE LINES TO THE SITE THAT WILL BE ADDITIONAL COSTS AS WELL AS ADDITIONAL COSTS FOR THE CONCRETE PAD AND PUTTING CONCRETE IN THE TURNAROUND THAT IS CURRENTLY GRASS.  BOARD MEMBER ROB LAWSON GOT BIDS FROM THE LOCAL BANKS FOR THE FUEL STATION ONLY IN THE AMOUNT OF 137,568 DOLLARS.  IT DID NOT INCLUDE THE EXTRAS.  THE BOARD ACCEPTED THE BID FROM THE FIRST STATE BANK FOR A SEVEN-YEAR LEASE PURCHASE WITH ANNUAL PAYMENTS OF 22,008 DOLLARS.  THAT WAS THE LOWEST INTEREST RATE OF THE THREE RECEIVED.  THE BOARD ASKED LAWSON TO CHECK INTO GETTING THE ADDITIONAL COSTS INCLUDED IN THE LEASE PURCHASE AND REPORT BACK.  RESIDENTS OF NIXON DRIVE ASKED ABOUT THE WINDBREAK AND THE GAP IN THE BREAK.  THEY WERE INQUIRING ABOUT WHEN IT WOULD BE FILLED.  JIM MILLER, ONE OF THE RESIDENTS, MET WITH THE SOIL CONSERVATION ABOUT TREES THAT ARE AVAILABLE.  THERE ARE PLUM AND CEDAR TREES ON THE TWO SIDES.  IF THE BOARD WANTS TO GO THROUGH THE SCS, THEY HAVE TO BE ORDERED BY THE END OF THE MONTH.  A DRIP LINE WILL BE NEEDED TO WATER THE TREES WHEN THEY ARE PLANTED.  THE BOARD CONSENSUS WAS TO CONTACT DAVID BRANDYBERRY ABOUT ORDERING AND INSTALLING THE TREES.  THE CORN STALKS WILL NEED TO BE CUT DOWN AND THE CITY CREWS CAN HELP WITH THE WATER LINE.  GARY HILDEBRAND WILL BE CONTACTED ABOUT PLANTING GRASS.  THE BOARD’S PLANS ARE TO PLANT THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE TREES TO GRASS.  THE TERRACES WILL BE WORKED ON AS TIME ALLOWS TO HELP WITH THE RUN OFF FROM THE AIRPORT.  TOM BENNETT PRESENTED THE BID SHEETS FOR THE RUNWAY REPAIR PROJECT THAT WILL BE FUNDED BY FEDERAL AND STATE GRANTS.  IT WILL BE GOING OUT FOR BIDS WITH THE BID OPENING AT THE NEXT MEETING.  HE WALKED THE RUNWAY TO IDENTIFY THE PANELS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THE JOINTS THAT WILL BE FILLED.  THE COST IS 89,226 DOLLARS AND WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER OR OCTOBER, AFTER THE BUSY SEASON FOR THE AIRPORT.  THE CITY WILL ADVERTISE THE OLD BEACON FOR SALE THAT WILL BE REPLACED WITH THE LIGHTING PROJECT.  THE NEXT MEETING OF THE NORTON CITY COUNTY AIRPORT BOARD WILL BE MONDAY APRIL 9TH AT 5:30 IN THE AIRPORT OFFICE.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
