Hansen Scholarship Winners

THE DANE G. HANSEN FOUNDATION OF LOGAN HAS NAMED 260 HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS FROM 59 NORTHWEST KANSAS SCHOOLS AS WINNERS IN ITS 37TH ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION.  IN ADDITION, 13 SCHOLARSHIPS HAVE BEEN AWARDED TO COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO ARE PLANNING TO CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION AT A KANSAS FOUR YEAR COLLAGE OR UNIVERSITY.  50 HANSEN SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS WERE SELECTED. THE STIPEND OF 3000 DOLLARS WAS GRANTED FOR ONE YEAR AND MAY BE RENEWED FOR ONE ADDITIONAL YEAR, BASED UPON CONTINUED REGARD FOR THE PRINCIPLES, WHICH GUIDED THE SUCCESS OF THE LATE DANE G. HANSEN.  THOSE WINNERS INCLUDE TYLER SHIELDS OF DECATUR COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL, AUSTIN STEWART OF HOXIE, BAILEY WARD AND DARLA PLANTE OF PHILLIPSBURG TYLER MONTGOMERY OF NORTHERN VALLEY, RHEES CARLSON, BRAE BIGGE AND ERIC BECKER OF NORTON COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL.  IN SELECTING THE AWARD WINNERS, THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE CONSIDERED PROFICIENCY IN VERBAL AND WRITING SKILLS.  OTHER IMPORTANT FACTORS WERE ACADEMIC RECORDS, TEST SCORES, AND COMMUNITY SERVICE IN, WHICH THE STUDENT MAY HAVE PARTICIPATED.
