THE TIMELINE FOR THE POOL PROJECT SALES TAX ELECTION AND THE CITY WIDE CLEAN UP DATES WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON CITY COUNCIL LAST NIGHT.  RICK ENSZ FROM COOPER MALONE MCCLAIN BOND UNDERWRITERS PRESENTED THE TIMELINE TO GET THE SALES TAX QUESTION ON THE BALLOT FOR THE NOVEMBER 6TH ELECTION.  THE FIRST PUBLIC HEARING WILL BE COMING UP APRIL 17TH TO EXPLAIN THE PROJECT.  THERE WILL BE TWO MORE PUBLIC MEETINGS DURING THE PROCESS.  THE COST OF THE PROJECT WON’T BE KNOWN UNTIL IN JUNE.  THE COUNCIL LAST NIGHT APPOINTED THEMSELVES AS THE PUBLIC BUILDING COMMISSION.  JERRY JONES AND JERRY MORITZ BOTH VOTED NO.  THEY WILL BE THE ONES RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THE SALES TAX MONEY AND THEN PAYING FOR THE POOL BONDS.  THEY WILL THEN HAVE AN ANNUAL MEETING AT THE SECOND COUNCIL MEETING OF THE YEAR.  THE PUBLIC BUILDING COMMISSION BONDS WILL BE THE ONES THAT WILL BE USED FOR THIS PROJECT.  THE MONEY COLLECTED FROM THE SALES TAX, IF IT PASSES, WILL BE USED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION, OPERATION, MAINTAINING AND EQUIPPING THE POOL.  JONES AND MORITZ VOTED NO.  THE SALES TAX MUST STAY IN PLACE AT LEAST 20 YEARS.  THIS WHOLE PROJECT IS CONTINGENT ON THE SALES TAX QUESTION ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT.  THE NORTON POOL WEBSITE WAS ALSO APPROVED WITH JONES VOTING NO.  ALSO LAST NIGHT, CITY ADMINISTRATOR ROB LAWSON REPORTED THAT THE CITY WIDE CLEAN UP DATES ARE SET FOR APRIL 23RD, 24TH AND 25TH.  THIS IS ALSO THE FREE DAYS AT THE LANDFILL.   THE CITY IS ASKING RESIDENTS TO NOT SET OUT THEIR ITEMS UNTIL CLOSER TO THOSE DATES.  YARD WASTE PICK UP WILL START THAT SAME WEEK.  THE CONSIGNMENT AUCTION THAT THE CITY TOOK SURPLUS EQUIPMENT TO NETTED THEM 13 THOUSAND DOLLARS.  THE WATER SERVICE REQUEST FOR NEAL WILMETH FOR THE ON-LINE CHRISTMAS DECORATING STORE WAS APPROVED.  THE FALL PROTECTION MATERIAL IS ALL IN AND SOME HAS BEEN PLACED ON THE ELMWOOD PARK AND MAPES PARK.  THE CITY IS LOOKING AT USING SOME OF THE OLD POWER PLANT TO TURN IT IN TO A STORAGE BUILDING.  THE WATER DISCOLORATION NOTICED BY CITY RESIDENTS WAS CAUSED BY THE USE OF THE WATER BY THE RACE TRACK AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WHEN THEY OPENED A HYDRANT ON MONDAY.  PENCO ENGINEERING WILL BE AT THE NEXT MEETING TO TALK ABOUT EXTENDING THE GEOMETRIC PROJECT FARTHER WEST ON HIGHWAY 36 WEST OF THE STOP LIGHT.  THEY WILL ALSO REPORTED ON THE DRAINAGE FROM THE AIRPORT AND THE POOL AREA.  THE CITY WILL BE WORKING ON WIDENING NORTH NORTON BESIDE THE SLEEP INN.  SERVICE OIL HAS AGREED TO DONATE 50 FEET OF THEIR PROPERTY TO WIDEN THAT STREET.  THE CITY WILL BE USING MOST OF THEIR OWN LABOR FOR THE PROJECT.  THE SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT REQUEST FROM CLAIRE DOWLING WAS APPROVED CONTINGENT UPON THE CITY’S REVIEW WAS APPROVED FOR TEN FEET OF SIDEWALK.  THE IMPOUND VEHICLE SALE IS TONIGHT AT 5:15 AT THE CITY OFFICE.  NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK IS NEXT WEEK AND THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NORTON LIBRARY WILL BE JULY 19TH.  THE PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE POOL WILL BE TUESDAY APRIL 17TH AT SIX AT THE EAST CAMPUS AUDITORIUM.  THE NEXT MEETING OF THE NORTON CITY COUNCIL WILL BE WEDNESDAY APRIL 18TH AT 5:30 IN THE COUNCIL ROOM OF CITY HALL.  THE NEWLY ELECTED COUNCIL MEMBERS WILL TAKE THEIR SEATS AT THAT MEETING.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
