THE UPDATE ON ACTIVITIES HIGHLIGHTED THE AGENDA FOR THE NORTON CITY COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD LAST NIGHT. DIRECTOR SCOTT SPROUL REPORTED ON THE MEETING HE HAD WITH THE CHAMBER DIRECTOR AND NEX-TECH ABOUT THE WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT. IT WOULD BE A THREE-YEAR AGREEMENT WITH AN ANNUAL FEE OF 79 DOLLARS. THE FEE IS SHARED WITH THE CHAMBER AND TRAVEL AND TOURISM. THE CURRENT CONTRACT IS NOT UP, BUT NEX-TECH IS WILLING TO LET THEM OUT OF THE CONTRACT AND SIGN A NEW ONE. THIS IS ABOUT 10 DOLLARS CHEAPER THAN THE OLD CONTRACT. THE ENTITIES SHOULD THE SITE EASIER TO USE AND EASIER FOR THOSE VIEWING IT TO USE IT. THE CHANGE WAS APPROVED BY THE BOARD. ALSO LAST NIGHT, SPROUL REPORTED THAT THE OLD DOCTORS CLINIC IS ABOUT 68 PER CENT DONE TO MAKE IT THE COLBY COMMUNITY COLLEGE NORTON ANNEX. THEY ARE WORKING ON THE GRID WORK ON THE CEILING AND THEN WILL BE WORKING ON THE FLOORING. THEY HOPE TO HAVE A MAY FIRST TARGET DATE FOR MOVING IN. SPROUL WILL BE CONTACTING COLBY COLLEGE ABOUT SOME FUND RAISING LETTERS AND PHONE CALLS THAT HAVE BEEN RECEIVED BY LOCAL BUSINESSES. THERE IS A GOLF TOURNAMENT APRIL 21ST FOR THE COLBY COLLEGE NORTON ANNEX. 20 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE CLASSES HELD BY THE KANSAS SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER. THE FIRST APPLICATION HAS BEEN RECEIVED FOR THE E-COMMUNITY. THERE IS STILL SOME MORE PAPERWORK THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE IT IS TAKEN TO THE LEADERSHIP TEAM AND THE FINANCIAL REVIEW BOARD. SPROUL REPORTED ON THE K-STATE YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE HE ATTENDED IN GREAT BEND LAST MONTH AND SOME OF THE IDEAS HE BROUGHT BACK. CAROLYN POPP FROM HILL CITY IS WORKING ON THE HOUSING ASSESSMENT TOOL. SPROUL ALSO PRESENTED A POWER POINT ON HOUSING INFORMATION AND THE PLAIN SMART COMMUNITY. THE FINANCIAL RESOURCES MEETING WAS ATTENDED BY FOUR OF THE BANKS AND SEVERAL CPA’S. IT WAS A WAY TO LEARN ABOUT THE WAYS TO FIND MONEY SOURCES IN NORTON COUNTY INCLUDING THE E-COMMUNITY. NORTON DEVELOPMENT, UTILITY COMPANIES AND OTHERS. SPROUL WILL BE ATTENDING THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT TRAINING APRIL 17TH IN HUTCHINSON. HE WILL ALSO BE WORKING ON SUGGESTIONS FOR POLICIES FOR ECONOMIC INCENTIVES FOR THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS. THAT WHEY THE COUNTY OR CITY CAN GET SOMETHING OUT OF ABATEMENTS THEY APPROVED. THE NEXT MEETING OF THE NORTON CITY COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD WILL BE TUESDAY MAY 15TH AT 5:30 IN THE OFFICE AT 205 SOUTH STATE STREET. ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
