THE NORTON COUNTY 4-H BUILDING WILL BE THE SITE FOR THE NEXT AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE NEXT WEEK. EVERY 56 DAYS SOMEONE CAN DONATE BLOOD, AND THE NEED FOR BLOOD CONTINUES EVERY DAY. BEFORE DONATING, BE SURE TO EAT REGULAR MEALS AND DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS. EAT FOODS RICH IN IRON SINCE ONLY BLOOD WITH GOOD IRON LEVELS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR DONATION. REFRAIN FROM EXERCISING THE DAY OF THE DONATION. ANYONE 17 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER CAN DONATE BLOOD. IN KANSAS 16 YEAR OLDS CAN DONATE WITH A SIGNED PARENTAL CONSENT FORM. AFTER DONATING, THE BLOOD THEN UNDERGOES SEVERAL TESTS INCLUDING BLOOD TYPE, HEPATITIS AND HIV/AIDS. THEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR HOSPITAL PATIENTS. A DONATION CAN HELP UP TO THREE LIVES. IT TAKES 48 HOURS TO TEST AND PROCESS THE BLOOD. AN AVERAGE ADULT BODY CONTAINS 10 TO 12 PINTS OF BLOOD. A NEWBORN BABY HAS ONLY ABOUT ONE CUP OF BLOOD IN THEIR BODY. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HUMAN BLOOD. IT CANNOT BE MANUFACTURED. THE AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE WILL BE NEXT WEDNESDAY APRIL 25TH FROM NOON TILL SIX IN THE NORTON COUNTY 4-H BUILDING.
