Hospital Board Notes

THE UPDATE ON THE ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS AND THE UPPER LEVEL PLANNING WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON COUNTY HOSPITAL BOARD OF TRUSTEES AT THEIR MEETING LAST WEDNESDAY.  THE ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS IS MOVING TOWARD MEANINGFUL COMPLETION.  THEY WILL BE DOING A 90-DAY TEST AND THEN IF THE HOSPITAL PASSES, THEY WILL BE GOING FORWARD TO THE NEXT STEP.  IF THEY ALSO PASS, THEY CAN BE ELIGIBLE FOR FINANCIAL HELP FROM THE GOVERNMENT TO HELP WITH HE COSTS TO UPDATE TO THE ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS.  ALSO, HEALTH FACILITIES GROUP OF WICHITA IS WORKING ON A PLANNING STUDY FOR THE UPPER LEVEL OF THE HOSPITAL.  THE BOARD APPROVED HAVING THE MURRAY COMPANY HELP WITH THE PLANNING STUDY TO ASSIST WITH THE COST PRESENTATION FOR THE RENOVATION.  ONCE THE STUDY IS DONE, THE BOARD WILL GO OUT FOR BIDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER.  IN OTHER BUSINESS, THE BOARD TOURED THE PHARMACY DEPARTMENT WITH HEAD JULIE CAMPBELL AND DEB BOWEN.  THEY LEARNED ABOUT THE PIXUS MEDICATION DISPENSING SYSTEM THAT IS NOW OPERATIONAL.  THEY ALSO ADDRESSED THE CHEMOTHERAPY HOOD PROPOSAL.  THE HOOD HELPS TO MIX THE MEDICATIONS.  THE BOARD APPROVED THE PURCHASE FROM CONTAINMENT TECHNOLOGY GROUP FOR 18,550 DOLLARS.  THE MONEY WAS IN THE CAPITAL ASSET BUDGET.  THE BOARD AND HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION IS LOOKING AT THE 340 B DRUG PRICE PROGRAM.  THIS ALLOWS CRITICAL ACCESS HOSPITALS TO PURCHASE MEDICATIONS THE WAY THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOES WITH PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES.  THE BOARD APPROVED THE MEDICAL STAFF APPOINTMENTS OF SURGEON BRANDON CUNNINGHAM FROM THE HAYS MEDICAL CENTER, DOCTOR MICHAEL POH AND DOCTOR RICHARD STEMM FROM THE GREAT PLAINS RADIOLOGY.  THE QUALITY IMPROVEMENT SUMMARIES FROM SAFETY, PHARMACY, SURGERY, ENGINEERING, BUSINESS OFFICE AND LABORATORY WERE PRESENTED.  THE HEALTH NEEDS ASSESSMENT IS BEING DONE BY VVV RESEARCH.  THEY HOPE TO HAVE AN INITIAL DRAFT TO THE HOSPITAL IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS.  HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR RICH MILLER INVITED BOARD MEMBERS TO A MEETING WITH THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE KANSAS BOARD OF HEALTH ARTS KATHLEEN LIPPERT, IN OBERLIN MONDAY MAY 14TH.  MILLER AND BOARD MEMBERS MET WITH THE NORTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR THEIR QUARTERLY UPDATE MONDAY.  KANSAS HOSPITAL WEEK WILL BE MAY 7TH THROUGH THE 11TH.  THE NEXT MEETING OF THE NORTON COUNTY HOSPITAL BOARD OF TRUSTEES WILL BE WEDNESDAY MAY 16TH AT 6:30 IN THE BOARD ROOM OF THE HOSPITAL.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
