Norton City Council Notes

THE ORDINANCE FORMING A PUBLIC BUILDING COMMISSION AND AN INVITATION WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON CITY COUNCIL LAST NIGHT.  THE COUNCIL HEARD THE FIRST READING OF THE ORDINANCE FORMING A PUBLIC BUILDING COMMISSION TO WORK WITH THE SWIMMING POOL ISSUE.  THIS COMMISSION WILL OVERSEE THE BONDS FOR THE POOL AND IF IN THE FUTURE, THE COUNCIL WANTS ANOTHER BOND ISSUE FOR ANOTHER PROJECT, THEY CAN OVERSEE THAT TOO.  THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE MAYOR WILL MAKE UP THE SEVEN-MEMBER COMMISSION.  THE TERMS OF OFFICE WILL BE THE TERMS OF THEIR RESPECTIVE COUNCIL OR MAYORAL POSITIONS.  THEY WILL HAVE AN ANNUAL MEETING ONCE PER YEAR.  THE FIRST READING WAS APPROVED.  THERE WILL BE THREE READINGS BEFORE THE ORDINANCE IS ADOPTED.  AT THE THIRD READING, BOND UNDERWRITER RICK ENSZ FROM COOPER, MALONE MCCLAIN WILL PRESENT THE LIST OF BYLAWS FOR THE PUBLIC BUILDING COMMISSION.  THEY ARE ALSO WAITING ON THE RESULTS OF THE SURVEY THAT IS ON LINE NOW AT NORTON POOL DOT COM.  THEY WILL LEAVE THAT SURVEY UP UNTIL MAY 18TH.  IT IS THE PUBLIC’S CHANCE TO TELL HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT THE ISSUE AND ALSO CAN PUT THEIR OWN COMMENTS ON IT.  ALSO LAST NIGHT, THE COUNCIL WAS INVITED TO THE EAGLE SCOUT CEREMONY FOR CHRIS RICHARD.  HE WORKED WITH THE CITY CREWS TO INSTALL HANDICAP PICNIC TABLES IN THE CITY AND ALSO RAISED ENOUGH MONEY TO POUR NEW CONCRETE TO THEM AS WELL.  THE CEREMONY WILL BE MAY 26TH AT TWO AT THE FIRST CHURCH OF GOD.  IN OTHER BUSINESS, THE CITY CREWS WERE THANKED FOR A JOB WELL DONE ON THE CITY WIDE CLEAN UP.  THE CITY IS WAITING ON THE CONTRACTOR TO WORK ON THE ROOF IN THE GRANDSTANDS AT ELMWOOD PARK.  SOMEONE DONATED METAL TO USE TO REPLACE THAT ROOF.  CITY ADMINISTRATOR ROB LAWSON PRESENTED AN E-MAIL FROM PENCO ENGINEERING ON THE COSTS OF PIPE FOR THE WEST CRANE PROJECT AND RESULTS OF THE STUDY DONE ON THE POOL.   THE WATER TAP ON STATE STREET YESTERDAY WENT VERY WELL.  THE NEW COUNCIL TRAINING IS SET FOR MAY 7TH AT 5:30.  JON BOXLER FROM BOXLER INSURANCE AND EMPLOYER’S MUTUAL CASUALTY PRESENTED A DIVIDEND CHECK TO THE COUNCIL FOR 6,020.  THE CITY CREWS WERE THANKED FOR FIXING THE BLEACHERS AT THE RACE TRACK.  THE CUB SCOUT DISTRICT DAY CAMP IS SET FOR JUNE 2ND AND 3RD IN ELMWOOD PARK.  THEY WILL BE DOING B.B. GUN AND ARCHERY WITH TRAINED STAFF.  THE WATER PLANT WILL BE ADDING NEW CHEMICALS NEXT MONTH.  MORE DETAILS WILL BE COMING.  A PUBLIC WORKS WORK SESSION IS SET FOR MONDAY NIGHT AT FIVE, WITH THE NEW COUNCIL TRAINING AT 5:30, AND A PERSONNEL COMMITTEE MEETING MAY 24TH AT FOUR.  ALL MEETINGS ARE HELD IN CITY HALL AND ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
