Hiring Recommendations

NORTON COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE DUSTIN MCEWEN WILL BE RECOMMENDED TO THE USD 211 BOARD OF EDUCATION AS THE NORTON JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL AND 7-12 ATHLETIC DIRECTOR. THE BOARD WILL TAKE ACTION ON THE RECOMMENDATION AT THEIR MAY 14 MEETING.  MCEWEN, A 1991 GRADUATE OF NORTON COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL, IS CURRENTLY THE PRINCIPAL OF THE WICHITA COUNTY JUNIOR-SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN LEOTI PRIOR TO HIS BEING THE 7-12 PRINCIPAL IN LEOTI, MCEWEN WAS THE 7-12 ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AND ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR FOR THE CHENEY SCHOOLS.  PRIOR TO GOING INTO SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION, MCEWEN TAUGHT HIGH SCHOOL MATH AND COACHED FOOTBALL AT BOTH HILLSBORO AND CHENEY. MCEWEN, WHO WAS AN OUTSTANDING ATHLETE, ESPECIALLY IN FOOTBALL, FOR THE NORTON BLUE JAYS AND AT FORT HAYS STATE, HAS ALSO COACHED HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL AND BASKETBALL DURING HIS YEARS AS AN EDUCATOR.  HE EARNED HIS B.S. WAS IN SECONDARY MATH EDUCATION FROM FORT HAYS STATE AND HE HOLDS AN M.S. IN BUILDING LEADERSHIP FROM NEWMAN UNIVERSITY IN WICHITA.  MCEWEN’S WIFE, SUNSHINE, (SUNNY) IS ALSO AN EDUCATOR AND WILL BE RECOMMENDED FOR TEACHING GRADE 3 AT THE EISENHOWER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.  MRS. MCEWEN IS A NATIVE OF SYLVAN GROVE AND EARNED BOTH A B.S. AND M.S. IN EDUCATION FROM TABOR COLLEGE, HILLSBORO.  THE MCEWEN’S HAVE TWO CHILDREN. THEIR SON KOBIE WILL BE AN 8TH GRADER NEXT FALL AND DAUGHTER JAIDA WILL BE A FIFTH GRADER.  NORTON SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT GREG MANN SAID THEY WERE CONCERNED ABOUT LOSING JEFF AND DEENA WALLINGFORD AS THEY HAD BOTH DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB FOR USD 211 AND THE WALLINGFORD’S WERE SUCH A QUALITY FAMILY.  SO, IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE THAT THE MCEWEN’S COMING TO BE PART OF USD 211.  THEY BELIEVE MR. AND MRS. MCEWEN ARE BOTH OUTSTANDING EDUCATORS WHO ARE FAMILIAR WITH NORTON AND OUR HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS.  AS A FAMILY WE BELIEVE THEY ARE TOP SHELF AND WILL BE A TREMENDOUS ADDITION TO OUR COMMUNITY.”
