Airport Board Notes

THE UPDATE ON THE WINDBREAK AND THE PROJECTS FOR THE AIRPORT WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON CITY COUNTY AIRPORT BOARD MONDAY NIGHT.  THE TREES TO FILL IN THE WINDBREAK HAVE BEEN ORDERED AND SHOULD ALREADY BE HERE.  DAVID BRANDYBERRY WILL BE PLANTING THEM.  THIS SHOULD HELP TO CUT DOWN ON THE DEBRIS THAT IS BLOWING ONTO PROPERTIES SOUTH OF THE AIRPORT.  THERE WILL BE A LINE OF TREES PLANTED BESIDE THE EXISTING ONES, DUE TO THOSE DYING OUT.  THE CITY AND COUNTY WILL HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER TO PUT IN A DRIVE FOR ACCESS TO THE FIELD FOR MARVIN STUTHEIT ON THE WEST END OF THE WINDBREAK.  THE F.A.A. HAS APPROVED THE FILLING IN OF THE GAP.  THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE WINDBREAK WILL BE SPRAYED SO THAT GRASS CAN BE PLANTED.  ALSO, THE BOARD ADDRESSED THE FUELING STATION.  THE BOARD ACCEPTED THE 7-YEAR LEASE PURCHASE WITH THE FIRST STATE BANK FOR 130,814 DOLLARS.  THE PAYMENTS WILL START NEXT YEAR.  THE MONEY PUT IN THE BUDGET FOR THE PAYMENT THIS YEAR WILL BE USED FOR THE CONCRETE THAT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE LEASE PURCHASE.  THERE IS A DISCOUNT FOR THE BOARD IF IT IS PAID UP FRONT.  THE GRANT FROM THE STATE WILL BE USED TO PAY FOR THE CARD READER THAT WILL BE NEEDED.  THE BOARD ALSO APPROVED INSTALLING CONCRETE ON THE EAST END OF THE GRASS RUNWAY AS A RESULT OF THE F.A.A. INSPECTION.  THE BOARD WILL BE ENTERING INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE CONTRACTOR FOR THE LIGHTING PROJECT.  THE WHOLE RUNWAY WILL NOT NEED TO BE CLOSED FOR THAT PROJECT. THEY WILL PLAN ON STARTING IN LATER JULY.  THE CONCRETE PANELS THAT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED WILL SHUT DOWN THE WHOLE RUNWAY.  THAT WILL START IN THE FALL.  THE PROJECT WILL GO OUT FOR BIDS AND THEY WILL BE OPENED JUNE 11TH AT FOUR IN THE COUNTY CLERK’S OFFICE.  TOM BENNETT FROM B.G. CONSULTANTS WILL REVIEW THE BIDS AND THEN BRING THEM TO THE BOARD MEETING THAT NIGHT.  JUSTINA SMITH WAS AT THE MEETING TO ASK ABOUT THE PLANS FOR SELLING THE BEACON TOWER ON E-BAY.  THE BOARD WILL LEAVE IT THERE FOR TWO WEEKS.  CHAIRMAN JOHN MILLER HAS SIGNED THE DOCUMENTS FOR THE FARM SERVICE AGENCY FOR THE CHANGES TO THE STUTHEIT LEASE.  THERE ARE NO CHANGES FOR THE LOFGREEN LEASE.  THE NEXT MEETING OF THE NORTON CITY COUNTY AIRPORT BOARD WILL BE MONDAY JUNE 11TH AT 5:30 IN THE AIRPORT OFFICE.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
