School Board Notes

THE UPDATE ON THE MTSS FOR THE DISTRICT AND THE STRATEGIC PLAN WERE ITEMS FOR THE USD 211 NORTON BOARD OF EDUCATION LAST NIGHT.  ONE REPRESENTATIVE FROM EACH SCHOOL PRESENTED THEIR IDEAS FOR IMPLEMENTING THE MTSS IN THAT BUILDING.  GEORGE ROSSI REPORTED ON THE CHANGES THAT WILL BE TAKING PLACE AT THE JUNIOR HIGH INCLUDING THE FIRST HALF HOUR OF THE DAY SET ASIDE FOR THE MTSS TRAINING.  COREY ROY ADDRESSED THE EISENHOWER SCHOOL AND HOW ALL THE STAFF WILL BE INVOLVED.  RUDY PEREZ FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL ADDRESSED HOW THEY WILL ALSO FOCUS ON BEHAVIOR ISSUES.  IT WILL BE A WORK IN PROGRESS FOR EACH OF THE SCHOOLS.  ALSO LAST NIGHT, THE BOARD REVIEWED THE STRATEGIC PLAN THAT WAS PREPARED BY THE DOCKING INSTITUTE AFTER THE PHONE AND E-MAIL SURVEY OF THE DISTRICT’S PATRONS AND THE PLANNING SESSIONS.  THE BOARD APPROVED THE PLAN WITH HIRING AN ARCHITECTURAL FIRM FOR THE FIRST STEPS AS WELL AS FARTHER DOWN THE LINE AND ALSO CONTRACTING WITH A BONDING COMPANY EARLIER IN THE PROCESS.  THE PLAN WAS APPROVED.  IN OTHER BUSINESS, DEENA WALLINGFORD PRESENTED A REPORT ON THE LANGUAGE ARTS CURRICULUM AND DISCUSSED HOW THAT IS IMPLEMENTED IN HER CLASSROOM.  THE PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOKS FOR EACH SCHOOL WERE PRESENTED BY EACH PRINCIPAL.  THEY UPDATED ON THE CHANGES THAT WERE MADE IN EACH BOOK.  THE HANDBOOKS WILL BE REVIEWED FOR A MONTH AND THE BOARD WILL TAKE ACTION ON THEM AT THE NEXT MEETING.  JANELLE MOREL PRESENTED AN UPDATED ON THE HIGH SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL.   THE BOARD APPROVED JOINING THE KANSAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOLS BOARDS AND THEIR LEGAL DEFENSE FUND.  THE DUES WERE FROZEN FROM LAST YEAR.  THE BOARD APPROVED THE WAIVER OF FEES AND INSURANCE FOR BUILDING USAGE BY THE NORTON COACHING STAFF FOR THE SUMMER SPORTS CAMPS.  THE BOARD APPROVED REPUBLISHING THE BUDGET FOR FOOD SERVICE FOR THE DISTRICT TO MAKE SURE THERE IS BUDGET AUTHORITY FOR ALL EXPENSES AT THE END OF THE YEAR.  THE BOARD SET THE END OF YEAR MEETING FOR FRIDAY JUNE 29TH AT 7:00 A.M.  THEY ACCEPTED, WITH APPRECIATION FOR HER 31 YEARS OF SERVICE TO USD 211, THE RESIGNATION FOR RETIREMENT FROM ALICE EVANS.  THEY ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATION OF MIRLA COLEMAN AS THE ENGLISH 12 AND BUSINESS LAW TEACHER AND THE RESIGNATION OF JOYCE MOREL AS THE EISENHOWER VOCAL MUSIC TEACHER.  THEY APPROVED CONTRACTS TO BE SENT TO JAMES WARNER FOR NCHS SPANISH, LINDSAY KRIER FOR 4TH GRADE, SUNSHINE MCEWEN FOR FOURTH GRADE, DUSTIN MCEWEN AS THE JUNIOR HIGH PRINCIPAL AND THE 7-12 GRADE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, AND MEGAN BRUMMER FOR 4TH GRADE.  THE BOARD APPROVED THE SUPPLEMENTAL ASSIGNMENTS AS PRESENTED.  THEY APPROVED OFFERING CONTRACTS TO CERTIFIED STAFF FOR THE 2012-2013 SCHOOL YEAR FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT RESIGNED.  THEY APPROVED TO OFFER EMPLOYMENT TO CLASSIFIED STAFF FOR 2012-2013 FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT RESIGNED.  THE NEXT MEETING OF THE USD 211 NORTON BOARD OF EDUCATION WILL BE MONDAY JUNE 11TH AT 7:30 IN THE BOARD ROOM OF THE UNIFIED OFFICE.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
