Norton County Commissioners Notes

THE UPDATE ON THE EMS AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION PROGRAM WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AT THEIR MEETING MONDAY.  EMS SUPERVISOR JANE WYATT REPORTED ON THE DEPARTMENT OPERATIONS AND UPCOMING MEETINGS.  COMMISSIONER JOHN MILLER RELAYED INFORMATION FROM THE STATE BOARD OF EMS MEETING LAST WEEK AND THE MEETINGS THAT WOULD BE IMPORTANT FOR THE COUNTY TO ATTEND.  WYATT ALSO ADDRESSED THE EMS PROTOCOL AND OPERATIONAL MANUAL.  THE DOCUMENT WAS LEFT FOR THE ATTORNEY AND COMMISSION TO REVIEW.  SOLID WASTE SUPERVISOR CURT ARCHIBALD PRESENTED HIS MAY ACCOUNTING.   HE ALSO GAVE A BRIEF REPORT ON THE OPERATIONS AND WEEKLY SCHEDULE.  COUNTY TREASURER CINDY LINNER AND APPRAISER ALAN HALE ADDRESSED THE NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION PROGRAM.  LINNER HAD A QUESTION DEALING WITH THE PAYMENT AND ELIGIBILITY ON THE PROGRAM WITH THE PAYMENT OF TAXES.  THE QUESTION ARISES DUE TO A DELINQUENT TAX PAYMENT ON A PARCEL THAT WAS ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM.  COUNTY ATTORNEY DOUG SEBELIUS GAVE THE COMMISSION A LEGAL OPINION ON THE POLICY AND THE POLICY IS WRITTEN AND NEEDS TO BE FOLLOWED.  HALE WILL VISIT WITH THE TAXPAYER AND EXPLAIN THE DECISION THAT WAS MADE.  LINNER ALSO ADDRESSED THE WAIT TIME AND THE LINES THAT ARE FORMING IN HER OFFICE DUE TO NEW SOFTWARE AND SHORT STAFF.  THE COMMISSION STATED IT WAS HER DECISION AND SHE WOULD HAVE TO DO WHAT WAS NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN THE OFFICE.  ALSO, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR SCOTT SPROUL UPDATED ON THE AG VALLEY ROAD PROJECT.  THE GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY WAS IN NORTON THIS WEEK TO TOUR THE NORTON AREA.  VARIOUS SITES WERE VISITED AND THE PRIMARY TOUR WAS AT SEBELIUS LAKE.  COLBY COMMUNITY COLLEGE NURSING PROGRAM MOVED INTO THEIR NEW BUILDING.  THE RENOVATION WAS DONE BY DEINES CONSTRUCTION AND AN OPEN HOUSE/RIBBON CUTTING WILL BE HELD LATER.   BRAD HOPKINS FROM HUSKY HOGS UPDATED ON THE IMPROVEMENTS THAT NEED TO BE MADE TO COUNTY ROAD E-8 NEXT TO THE PROPOSED NEW HOG FACILITY SITE.  THE FACILITY CONSTRUCTION WILL BE STARTING SOON AND THE ROAD WILL NEED TO BE ELEVATED.  HUSKY HOGS WOULD PROVIDE THE GRAVEL IF THE COUNTY IS WILLING TO BUILD THE ROAD SURFACE.  HOPKINS WAS INSTRUCTED TO MEET WITH ROAD SUPERVISOR FLOYD RICHARD ABOUT A PLAN.  THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS, THE COMMISSIONERS ADJOURNED MONDAY.  THESE MINUTES ARE NOT OFFICIAL UNTIL SIGNED AND APPROVED BY THE NORTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AT THEIR NEXT REGULAR MEETING MONDAY.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
