Airport Board Notes

THE BIDS FOR THE RUNWAY PROJECT AND THE BEACON TOWER WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON CITY COUNTY AIRPORT BOARD MONDAY NIGHT.  TWO BIDS WERE RECEIVED TO REPLACE THE PANELS THAT ARE CRACKING AT THE NORTH END OF THE RUNWAY.  THE BOARD APPROVED THE BID FROM APAC SHEARS FROM HAYS FOR 84,769 DOLLARS.  THAT IS 15 THOUSAND DOLLARS UNDER THE ENGINEER’S ESTIMATE.  90 PER CENT OF THE COST IS COMING FROM A GRANT FROM THE KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AVIATION DIVISION.  THE REPAINTING OF THE LINES ON EACH SIDE OF THE RUNWAY WILL BE ABOUT 20,600 DOLLARS.  THEY HAVE NOT BEEN REPAINTED SINCE THE RUNWAY WAS INSTALLED IN 2001.  THAT WILL BE TAKEN UP LATER.  THE CEMENT MARKERS FOR THE GRASS RUNWAY WILL ALSO BE DONE WITH THIS PROJECT.  TOM BENNETT FROM BG CONSULTANTS WILL BE DRAWING UP THE CONTRACT FOR THE BOARD TO SIGN AT THE NEXT MEETING.  ONLY ONE BID WAS RECEIVED FOR THE BEACON TOWER AND THAT WAS NOT ACCEPTED.  THEY WILL EXTEND THE BIDDING PERIOD FOR ANOTHER 30 DAYS.  THE SITE PREPARATION FOR THE FUELING STATION WAS ADDRESSED.  THREE COMPANIES WERE RECOMMENDED FOR THE CARD READER PART.  THE BOARD WAS ASKED TO SELECT A COMPANY AND CONTACT THEM.  THE BOARD WILL CONTACT U-FUEL, WHO IS PROVIDING THE FUELING SYSTEM AND SEE WHAT OPINIONS THEY HAVE ABOUT THE COMPANIES.  IT WILL TAKE 2 TO 6 WEEKS TO SET UP THE CARD READER.  THAT IS SO PILOTS CAN USE A CREDIT CARD FOR THE FUEL.  THEY PLAN TO BE READY TO PROCEED BY THE FIRST OF AUGUST.  LOCAL CONTRACTORS WILL BE CONTACTED TO GET BIDS TO FINISH THE CONCRETE WORK.  IN OTHER BUSINESS, THE CITY HAS PUT IN THE WATER LINE FOR THE TREES IN THE WINDBREAK.  THE LIGHTING PROJECT WILL BE DONE THIS FALL.  ATLAS ELECTRIC HAS SENT THEIR REQUESTS FOR PROPOSALS TO THEIR SUPPLIERS.  IT SHOULD TAKE TWO TO TWO AND A HALF MONTHS FOR DELIVERY TO THEM.  THE BOARD APPROVED JOHN MILLER AS CHAIRMAN, GAIL BOLLER AS VICE CHAIRMAN, CAROLYN APPLEGATE AS SECRETARY AND JERRY MORITZ AS TREASURER.  THE BOARD ATTORNEY WILL SEND A LETTER TO MARVIN STUTHEIT TO REMIND HIM ABOUT THE CITY AND COUNTY WANTING TO REPAIR THE TERRACES ON THE LAND SOUTH OF THE AIRPORT TO HELP WITH THE RUNOFF INTO THE CITY.  HE WILL BE INVITED TO THE NEXT MEETING, WHICH WILL BE MONDAY JULY 9TH AT 5:30 IN THE AIRPORT OFFICE.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
