Airport Board Notes

THE UPDATE ON PROJECTS AND A CARD READER COMPANY WERE ITEMS OR THE NORTON CITY COUNTY AIRPORT BOARD MONDAY NIGHT. TOM BENNETT FROM BG CONSULTANTS WAS THE MEETING TO UPDATE ON THE VARIOUS PROJECTS. THE RUNWAY REPAIR PROJECT WILL BE STARTING IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. THEY WILL HAVE TO CLOSE THE RUNWAY FOR SEVERAL DAYS FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE PANELS AT THE NORTH END OF THE RUNWAY. AFTER INSPECTION, THERE ARE A FEW MORE OF THE PANELS THAT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE FUNDING FOR THIS PROJECT IS BEING HELPED BY THE KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AVIATION DIVISION. THEY WILL PAY 90 PER CENT AND THE AIRPORT BOARD PAYS 10 PER CENT. KDOT IS OKAY WITH THE ADDED PANELS. THE STATE ALSO RECOMMENDED CONCRETE MARKERS ON THE END OF THE GRASS RUNWAY BUT THE BOARD VOTED TO NOT DO THAT PART. THE COST FOR THE PROJECT IS 84,769 DOLLARS. ALSO, THE BOARD ACCEPTED THE LOW BID FROM HEARTLAND PAYMENT SYSTEMS FOR THE CARD READER FOR THE FUELING STATION.  THAT WAS THE LOWER OF THE THREE BIDS AND THEY ALSO HAD A LOCAL REPRESENTATIVE IN SALINA FOR PROBLEMS AND REPAIR. THE TANKS ARE BEING MANUFACTURED A SPECIAL MEETING WAS SET FOR JULY 23RD TO OPEN BIDS FOR THE CONCRETE WORK FOR THE FUELING STATION. THE BOARD ACCEPTED THE BID OF 200 DOLLARS FROM ROLAND GILLIAM OF NORTH CAROLINA FOR THE BEACON TOWER. HE HAS AN AIR MUSEUM AND IT WILL BE DISPLAYED THERE. THE BEACON WAS COMMISSIONED IN 1944 AND PLACED IN 1945. THE BOARD APPROVED INCREASING THE SALARY OF SANDY SMITH TO 200 DOLLARS PER MONTH. IN ADDITION TO TAKING THE MINUTES, AND WORKING WITH THE BILLS, SMITH WILL BE WORKING WITH THE FUELING STATION AND THE RECEIPTS. THE RUNWAY LIGHT PROJECT IS ON HOLD WHILE WAITING ON MATERIALS. THEY SHOULD BE STARTING ON THAT PROJECT IN AUGUST. THERE MAY BE A SHORT CLOSURE OF THE AIRPORT FOR LESS THAN A DAY DURING THAT PROJECT. SMITH AND FLOYD RICHARD FROM THE ROAD AND BRIDGE ARE TO MEET WITH THE FSA OFFICE TO FIND OUT THE GRADES FOR THE TERRACES THAT WILL BE REBUILT TO HELP WITH THE RUNOFF FROM THE AIRPORT GROUND. THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE NORTON CITY COUNTY AIRPORT BOARD WILL BE MONDAY JULY 23RD AND THEN THE NEXT REGULAR MEETING WILL BE AUGUST 13TH BOTH AT 5:30 IN THE AIRPORT OFFICE. ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
