School Board Notes

THE PRESENTATIONS FROM A BONDING COMPANY AND AN ARCHITECT AS WELL AS THE START OF SCHOOL REPORT WERE ITEMS FOR THE USD 211 NORTON BOARD OF EDUCATION LAST NIGHT.  THE BOARD HEARD PRESENTATIONS FROM STRAIT ARCHITECT OF COLBY AND PIPER JOFFREY BONDING AGENTS.  THEY THEN DISCUSSED THE VARIOUS PRESENTATIONS HEARD, ARE THEY READY TO DEVELOP AND COMMIT TO A PLAN OF FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS, AND DEVELOP A PLAN TO PRESENT TO THE PUBLIC TO FINANCE THOSE IMPROVEMENTS.  THE BOARD WILL CONSIDER ALL THOSE QUESTIONS AND DISCUSS IT AGAIN NEXT MONTH.  ALSO LAST NIGHT, SUPERINTENDENT GREG MANN REPORTED THAT AS OF YESTERDAY THE HEAD COUNT WAS UP 4 FROM LAST YEAR.  PLUS TWO MORE FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS ENROLLED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.  EACH OF THE BUILDING PRINCIPALS PRESENTED THEIR START OF SCHOOL REPORT FOR EACH BUILDING AND ALSO ADDRESSED HOW THE MTSS WOULD BE WORKED ON AT EACH SCHOOL THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.  THE BOARD RECEIVED THE REVISED ACTIVITY GUIDELINES LAST WEEK FOR REVIEW.  THEY WERE ASKED TO APPROVED THEM LAST NIGHT, SO THEY CAN BE IMPLEMENTED BEFORE TOO MUCH OF THE SPORTS SEASONS WERE OVER.  THE GUIDELINES WERE APPROVED AS PRESENTED WITH STEVE BERRY VOTING NO.  BERRY WILL BE THE VOTING DELEGATE FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE KANSAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS NOVEMBER 30TH THROUGH DECEMBER 2ND IN TOPEKA.  THE EVALUATION FOR TEACHERS WILL BE ONE OF THE MAJOR TOPICS.  THOSE EVALUATION FORMS NEED TO BE DECIDED BY THE END OF THE 2013-14 SCHOOL YEAR.  SUPERINTENDENT MANN ALSO REPORTED ON THE MEETING WITH THE NATOMA CORPORATION AND THE BELOIT VO-TECH.  THEY ARE LOOKING AT A TRAINING PROGRAM OR AN APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM THROUGH THE TWO FOR THE NORTON JUNIOR AND SENIOR STUDENTS.  THEY WILL MEET AGAIN IN JANUARY TO DISCUSS VARIOUS OPTIONS AVAILABLE.  THE BOARD ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATION OF JANET LOOK AS THE USD 211 CROSSING GUARD.  THEY APPROVED THE CONTRACT WITH JODI ROE AS A TRAINER FOR VARSITY HOME FOOTBALL GAMES.  THEY ALSO APPROVED HEATHER PETERSON AS THE NCHS ASSISTANT SCHOLAR’S BOWL COACH.  THE NEXT MEETING OF THE USD 211 NORTON BOARD OF EDUCATION WILL BE MONDAY OCTOBER 8TH AT 7:30 IN THE BOARD ROOM OF THE UNIFIED OFFICE.  ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
