THE ORDINANCE TO VACATE A PART OF A STREET AND THE CHANGES TO THE BUILDING PERMITS ORDINANCE WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON CITY COUNCIL LAST NIGHT.  CITY ATTORNEY KAREN GRIFFITHS PRESENTED A VACATION ORDINANCE TO VACATE A PORTION OF VALLEY DRIVE AND REVERT THE LAND BACK TO THE LANDOWNERS.  THIS IS JUST NORTH OF JON BOXLER’S HOME.  THE LAND WILL GO TO HIM AND THE HARTLEYS WHEN THE THREE READINGS ARE FINISHED AND THE ORDINANCE PUBLISHED.  THE FIRST READING WAS APPROVED.  THE SECOND READING OF THE ORDINANCE AMENDING THE BUILDING PERMITS RELATING TO ROOF PROJECTS WAS APPROVED WITH RON BRIERY VOTING NO.  THE COUNCIL ALSO HEARD THE FIRST READING OF THE ORDINANCE TO UPDATE THE EMERGENCY SNOW ROUTES IN THE CITY.  THE ORDINANCE MOVES THOSE THAT ARE CURRENTLY DESIGNATED AS PRIMARY SNOW ROUTES TO EMERGENCY.  THE FIRST READING WAS APPROVED.  ALSO LAST NIGHT, THE COUNCIL APPROVED THE RECOMMENDATION FROM THE POLICE CHIEF TO HIRE MICHELLE SHANNON AS THE ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF.  SHE HAS BEEN A TROOPER WITH THE COLORADO STATE PATROL FOR 8 YEARS AND IS ORIGINALLY FROM LOGAN. SHE WILL START NEXT MONTH.  CHRIS MILLER FROM MILLER AND ASSOCIATES PRESENTED A PLAQUE TO THE COUNCIL FOR THE COMPLETION OF THE WATER TREATMENT PLANT RENOVATION.  THE USDA HAS SENT THE PAPERWORK TO CLOSE OUT THAT LOAN AND THE PROJECT IS DONE.  CITY ADMINISTRATOR ROB LAWSON REPORTED THE PLANT IS WORKING WELL AND THE CITY IS PRODUCING GOOD WATER.  THE COUNCIL APPROVED THE NEXT PUBLIC MEETING FOR THE POOL PROJECT TO BE SET FOR OCTOBER 25TH IN THE EAST CAMPUS GYM AT 6:30.  KEVIN MACALYEAH FROM AQUATIC DESIGN AND RICK ENSZ BOND COUNSEL WILL BE ON HAND TO ANSWER QUESTIONS.  THAT DATE STILL HAS TO BE APPROVED BY THE UNIFIED OFFICE.  JERRY JONES AND ROBERTA RYAN VOTED NO.  THE REPAIRS TO THE NORTH NORTON STREET WEST OF THE SLEEP INN IS DONE AND SHOULD RE-OPEN TOMORROW.  THE SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT REQUEST FROM DEREK PFANNENSTIEL AT 207 WEST WILBERFORCE FOR 60 FEET OF SIDEWALK WAS APPROVED.  THE NEXT PROJECT FOR THE CITY CREWS WILL BE ON CRANE STREET AND WORKING ON FIXING POTHOLES.   THE CITY CREWS WERE ALSO COMPLIMENTED FOR THE WORK DONE ON THE INTERSECTION BY ENGEL’S AND JAMBOREE.  UPCOMING MEETINGS ARE PLANNING COMMISSION MONDAY AT FIVE, PERSONNEL NEXT WEDNESDAY AT 4:30 AND PUBLIC SAFETY OCTOBER FIRST AT 5:15.  ALL MEETINGS ARE HELD IN CITY HALL AND ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
