THE UPDATE ON THE 4-H BUILDING AND THE HOSPITAL WERE ITEMS FOR THE NORTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AT THEIR MEETING LAST MONDAY.  GIL OTTER AND KATHY HOLSTE FROM THE 4-H BUILDING COMMITTEE ASKED ABOUT THE RENTAL SCHEDULE.  THEY RECENTLY HELD A MEETING TO DISCUSS THE FEES AND HAVE MADE A PROPOSED SCHEDULE TO MAKE THE NECESSARY CHARGES.  THERE WAS DISCUSSION ON THE DAYS OF USAGE AND THE PROPOSED CHANGES.  THE COMMISSION THEN APPROVED THE RATE CHANGE EFFECTIVE JANUARY FIRST.  THEY WILL ALSO BE ADVERTISING FOR A JANITORIAL SERVICE POSITION FOR THE 4-H BUILDING.  THE COMMITTEE WILL TAKE APPLICATIONS AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT LATER.  THEY ALSO ADDRESSED THE INTERIOR LIGHTING.  OTTER STATED THAT THE LIGHTING IS POOR AND NEEDS TO BE UPDATED.  DISCUSSION WAS ALSO HELD ON THE CONDITION OF THE CURB AND GUTTER THAT ARE IN POOR CONDITION AND WILL NEED REPAIR.  ALSO, HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR RICH MILLER, COO RYAN STOVER AND THREE BOARD MEMBERS OF THE HOSPITAL BOARD WERE AT THE MEETING TO PRESENT THE AUDIT AND UPDATE ON HOSPITAL FINANCES.  TWO OF THE HOSPITAL BOARD MEMBERS TERMS WILL BE UP JANUARY FIRST FOR APPOINTMENT BY THE COMMISSION.  TERRY NELSON INQUIRED ABOUT APPROVAL FOR GAS, LAGOON, WATER AND ELECTRICAL LINES TO BE PLACED IN THE COUNTY RIGHT OF WAY FOR A PROPOSED FACILITY FOR A GENETIC SOW FARM.  NELSON HAS BEEN WORKING WITH THE GENETICS TO PREPARE FOR THE SITE DEVELOPMENT.  ALSO IN PREPARATION ARE THE ROADS, GAS LINES, ELECTRICAL SERVICES AND WATER PERMIT/RIGHTS.  SHERIFF TROY THOMSON ASKED ABOUT THE WEATHER SIRENS. THERE HAS BEEN SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE WEATHER ALERT SYSTEM AND THE SIRENS GOING OFF WITH NO RESPONSE.  THE REPAIR SERVICE HAS BEEN IN NORTON TO FIX THE PROBLEM.  THEY ALSO ADDRESSED THE 800 MEGAHERTZ RADIOS.  THE SOLOMON VALLEY FIRE IN LENORA HAS ASKED ABOUT THE SWITCH DUE TO A GRANT THEY ARE APPLYING FOR.  IF THE MOVE WAS MADE TO THE 800 RADIOS IN LENORA, THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE WOULD NEED TO MAKE SOME UPDATES ON HARDWARE EQUIPMENT.  THE COMMISSION AND THOMSON DISCUSSED THE REQUEST FROM THE SOLOMON VALLEY FIRE TO FUND THE 2,664 DOLLARS IN HARDWARE UPDATES IN THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE.  AFTER QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS, THE COMMISSION FELT THEY COULD NOT APPROVE THE REQUEST AT THIS TIME FOR SEVERAL REASONS, INCLUDING THE FINANCIAL BURDEN.  SANDY SMITH AND FLOYD RICHARD ADDRESSED THE APPLICATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN RECEIVED AT THE ROAD AND BRIDGE AND ABOUT FILLING ONE POSITION.  THE COMMISSION AGREED TO FILL ONE POSITION.  THE SHALE PROJECT IS GOING WELL.  ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR SCOTT SPROUL UPDATED ON THE AG VALLEY ROAD PROJECT.  PRELIMINARY WORK IS BEING DONE AND WILL BE REPORTED TO THE COMMISSION IN DECEMBER.  THE HOLIDAY SCHEDULE FOR 2013 WAS APPROVED AS PRESENTED.  THE COMMISSION ALSO APPROVED DECEMBER 31ST AS A HOLIDAY FOR THE COUNTY.  THE COMMISSION THEN ADJOURNED LAST MONDAY.  THE NEXT MEETING OF THE NORTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WILL BE  TODAY.
