Facilities Planning Group

THE USD 211 NORTON FACILITIES PLANNING GROUP LEARNED ABOUT THE STATE OF FINANCES AT THEIR MEETING LAST THURSDAY.  THE MEETING STARTED WITH A CHANCE FOR MEMBERS OF THE GROUP TO TOUR THE EISENHOWER SCHOOL TO LEARN ABOUT THE CLASSROOMS, THE STUDENTS AND THE NEEDS FOR THE FACILITY.  THEY TOURED THE MODULAR THAT WAS ADDED TO THE SCHOOL LAST YEAR TO PROVIDE MORE SPACE FOR PROGRAMS.  THEY ALSO TOURED THE GYM, THE LIBRARY AND SEVERAL OF THE CLASSROOMS.  THEN AT THE FORMAL MEETING, SUPERINTENDENT GREG MANN PRESENTED THE FINANCIAL PICTURE FOR THE GROUP.  WHEN THE LENORA SCHOOL DISTRICT WAS ADDED TO USD 211 NORTON, THE STATE GAVE THE DISTRICT A BUDGET BLESSING TO ALLOW FOR THE LENORA BUDGET TO BE ADDED TO THE NORTON BUDGET AND THE DISTRICT CAN USE THOSE NUMBERS FOR THE THREE YEARS FOLLOWING.  THAT THREE YEARS IS UP THIS YEAR.  THE STATE AID PER PUPIL IS ALSO LESS NOW THAN IT WAS THREE YEARS AGO SO THE NORTON DISTRICT WILL BE LOSING MONEY.  SUPERINTENDENT MANN ASKED THE GROUP WHAT THEIR FEELINGS WERE ABOUT CONTINUING WITH THE GROUP AND LOOKING AT OPTIONS.  HE ASKED WHAT THE IMPACT AND FEELINGS OF THE COMMUNITY WOULD BE.  THE GROUP FELT HAVING PLANS READY IN CASE SOMETHING TURNS AROUND FOR THE BETTER WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE ON HAND.  THE ARCHITECTS HAVE MET WITH THE SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVES ABOUT THEIR CONCERNS AND TOOK THOSE IDEAS BACK TO WICHITA.  THEY PRESENTED PLANS ON MAKING MORE ROOM AT THE EISENHOWER SCHOOL LAST THURSDAY NIGHT.  THEY SHOWED THREE DIFFERENT PLANS WITH MOVING THE MULTI PURPOSE ROOM TO A NEW ADDITION, TO MOVING THE FRONT OFFICE AND PROVIDING MORE PARKING OPTIONS FOR THE CONGESTION FOR PARENTS DROPPING OFF AND PICKING UP KIDS.  NO DECISIONS WERE MADE.  THE GROUP WILL TOUR THE JUNIOR/SENIOR HIGH AT THEIR NEXT MEETING TO SEE WHAT THE NEEDS ARE IN THOSE SCHOOLS.  ALL MEETINGS OF THE USD 211 NORTON FACILITIES PLANNING GROUP ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
